ANZAPS

The Australian and New Zealand Association of Planning Schools

2008 Conference - Sydney September 26-28 September

ANZAPS meets annually for a 3 day conference, hosted by one or more of the planning schools, except in years when the World Conference of Planning Schools is held, when the meeting is held at the Congress..

The 2008 conference is being held in Sydney, hosted jointly by four Sydney planning programs. The conference is to be held in September. A preliminary announcement for the conference/meeting is below. Further details for the conference including final confirmation of the preliminary timetable will be given when available.

The meeting is proposed for 26-28 Sept – over 3 days as recommended in Dunedin. Venue: University of Sydney. The Sydney Committee is considering theme workshops on the Friday – as an “opt-in day” – as self-nominated sessions. Formal papers are proposed for Sat/Sun. Some papers will need refereeing – also there will be a non-refereed stream. An editorial board has been established for the meeting.

Timeline for papers:

Abstracts: 30th April (refereed and non-refereed papers)
Full papers submitted for refereeing: 2nd June
Full final papers: (including referee comments where relevant): Submitted no later than 4 August

Conference Theme:

Planning education in a globalised world

Sub-themes
– effective education in a constrained environment
– planning education for diverse communities, including indigenous issues
– education or infotainment? Engaging students with planning education
– new themes, models or curricula in planning education
– does sustainability “work” in planning education – where is social justice in planning education? .

A Schools business meeting (not just heads!!!) is also proposed, as are significant periods for discussions, etc.
